Bresciani Socks here in Kuala Lumpur

I have written about the benefits of wearing above the calf length socks before and you know that it is actually hard to easily find them here in Kuala Lumpur. Usually you have to see if the local Paul Smith boutique has them in stock or you have to ask around as the various designer boutiques whether they keep them in stock. They usually don't. Sometimes, Plal Store in Petaling Jaya keeps some wool mix ones in stock. But they aren't that dressy - a little thick and more suited for winter (Plal usually sells them in their winter wear department and not at their shoe department).

But now you can easily find above the calf dress socks easily in Kuala Lumpur now. There is a newly opened mens clothing store located at the Bangsar Shopping Centre called WJ & Co (They are on Instagram as @wjandco). They sell shoes from Carmina, Gaziano & Girling and John Lobb,  RingJacket (Japan) and P Johnson (Australia) for blazers and suits and other accessories too.

For socks, they've brought in quite a well known brand - Bresciani. This Italian company has been manufacturing socks since 1970 so I believe they're quite good at it. WJ & Co. carries four variants (with 4-5 colours at the moment) - cotton with some dots on them, ribbed cotton, cotton silk and sea island cotton. Note that they do not carry other socks like the ones made from wool or cashmere. I suppose this is to cater for the local flavour, i.e summer all year round. And cotton socks are quite usable in this weather.

The one in the pictures here are the ribbed cotton ones. Recommended by the proprietor of the store. I think that it would be a good choice as an everyday pair due to its ribbed nature which means that there is some space for air to circulate in between the ribs to keep my feet and calf cool in this summer heat.

Do note that these are dress socks. They actually do not offer any cushioning or padding at all. They are usually thin and silky (as silky as cotton can be) and are meant to cover up the ankles and protect the wearer from shoes that may cause blisters. They nature of cotton is that it does not soak up much sweat if your feet sweat so it may get a little sticky/clammy around the toes. But this applies to all cotton socks actually. Not only these.

Anyway, back to this pair of Bresciani socks. They actually fit me very well. I think its smoothness beats the few pairs of Paul Smith that I have (some Italian made, some Thai made) which are made of thicker strands of cotton I think. I have a few pairs of Versace above the calf socks but they are a little big in size compared to this. I also have a pair from the English brand Wolsey in wool/nylon but again not as thin and dressy as this.

I intend to try the cotton silk version after this to see if it regulates heat better than this pair.
